Dec 22, 2015 10:06 ET

As you head out to the malls for that last minute holiday gift, DRPS would like to remind you to secure vehicles and valuables while you shop.

DRPS volunteers spent the weekend distributing 5,000 Lock It or Lose It campaign pamphlets at the Oshawa Centre and the Pickering Town Centre. The campaign is a proactive crime prevention program that encourages drivers to take precautions to protect their vehicles and vehicle contents from theft, particularly during the holiday season. Volunteers place a small notice on vehicles offering simple prevention tips for drivers to protect their vehicles against theft.

In addition to sealing valuables from your unlocked car, a professional can steal your vehicle in just 30 seconds - without the key. It's important for drivers to take a few simple precautions that will protect their vehicles and vehicle contents, from theft.

An unlocked door is an invitation to thieves, before you leave the vehicle take a moment to place valuables out of sight and lock the doors.

Many of thefts of vehicles and thefts of vehicle contents are easily prevented. The key to protecting your vehicle is in your hands. Keep yourself from becoming an easy target by properly securing your vehicle. Remember: Lock It or Lose It.
