  Retired K-9 Magnum Passes Away

Jan 18, 2016 08:56 ET

Members of DRPS are mourning the loss of retired K-9 member Magnum. He passed away Saturday surrounded by his handler D/Cst. Dunlop and his family and members of the K-9 Unit.

Magnum worked with D/Cst. Dunlop from January of 2008 to his retirement in August of 2015. They patrolled the region supporting officers on B Platoon and were very visible at public events, where Magnum was always happy to meet with community members.

He was a general-purpose canine who was cross-trained in narcotic and firearms detection. During his career at DRPS, Magnum was responsible for several high profile arrests including homicide suspects, home invasion suspects and robbery suspects.

Our deepest condolences go out to D/Cst. Dunlop and his family and to members of the DRPS K-9 Unit during this difficult time. RIP Magnum.
