The DRPS was proud to enter three teams for the Tyler Hanson Memorial Street Hockey & Skills Challenge held at the Vos Independent grocery store parking lot on Jan. 16/17 in Port Perry.
Tyler was an active 12-year-old Port Perry-area boy who loved people and enjoyed hockey. He died as a result of a tragic accident on Sept. 21, 2015.
To honour his memory, his parents created the ball hockey tournament with the KICKS Fund, which attracted 30 teams and raised almost $15,000 for Sick Kids hospital. DRPS teams represented North Division, Central East Division (Oshawa) and the Drug Enforcement Unit.
The action went for 24 hours straight, from Sat. Jan. 16 to Sunday the 17th and everyone had a great time for such a worthy cause.
