Spring Prom celebrations are just two months away and our 3rd Annual Gowns for Girls event is in need of dresses, shoes, hairstylist services, make up and costume jewelry.
Gowns for Girls provides young women with the resources they need to attend their Spring Prom. Many do not have the economic resources to attend - some dresses can cost upwards of $500.
The initiative began in 2014 by Constable Joylene MacNeil, a Youth Officer in Oshawa. She says the event helps make prom night special for hundreds of girls across the region. "Prom and Graduation is a milestone event for every girl. The Gowns for Girls program helps to build confidence both inside and out thanks to the generous donations from our Community." Last year over 1,000 dresses were donated and approximately 500 girls were outfitted from head to toe.
The 3rd Annual Gowns for Girls event will take place Wednesday, April 27 and Thursday April 28, 2016 at Bobby Orr Public School, 7 Waterloo Street, Oshawa. It runs from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Organizers are now accepting donations. Please bring your new or used dresses, shoes, accessories and costume jewelry to any of our five DRPS police stations, or Sketchley Cleaners, 82 Thickson Road in Whitby, ahead of the event.
