Say Hello to Durham’s Newest Community Police Office

Aug 12, 2003 08:59 ET

The ground has been broken, the girders are up, and Durham's newest Community Police Office is well underway.

The Whitby Community Police Office (CPO), located at Rossland Road just east of Brock Street, will be replaced by a new office being built at Taunton Road and Anderson Street in north Whitby, to be completed by the Spring of 2004.

The new building will be home to both the Whitby Community Police and the Traffic Services Branch (TSB). TSB is currently located at the Champlain Centre in Whitby, a facility that houses administrative units such as Records Management, Quality Assurance, Finance, HR and Facilities.

The old Whitby Community Police Office will continue to be used by our Court Services while also offering much-needed space for other DRP support units, including the K-9 Unit.

Evaluation is currently ongoing for Phase II of the new Whitby site, which includes a warehouse behind the Community Office for units such as Property, Fleet and Quartermasters.

The architectural firm Barry Bryant Associates was contracted by the region to complete the new Whitby CPO facility. Dave Simpson, Manager of Facilities at the Durham Regional Police Service, is assisting the region with the construction of the new Durham Regional Headquarters at Rossland Road and Garden Street in Whitby.

Stay tuned via our Web site for updates on the new Whitby Community Police Office and other facilities and services.
