  DRPS Members Recognized at Annual OWLE Awards

We would like to congratulate all of our members recognized at the 18th Annual Ontario Women in Law Enforcement (OWLE) Awards.

Staff Sergeant Cathy Bawden and Records Manager Sheri Crago were recognized for their outstanding performance, service and teamwork at the annual awards dinner, which took place on May 6 at the Mississauga Grand Banquet & Convention Centre.

S/Sgt. Bawden received the award for Mentoring and was recognized for 25 years of service and Records Manager Sheri Crago received the award in the Team Endeavours category for her work on the LEARN Police Records Check Sub-Committee.

Constable Amanda Cowan had also been nominated for an award for her outstanding service to the community.

Also recognized were the women, both sworn and civilian, who achieved their 25 and 30 year service anniversary. Those awarded were: Sgt. Karen Maharaj, Cst. Pam Devine, Cst. Barbara Yarrow, Cst. Dana Edwards, Cst. Jeanette Lunenborg, Communicator Kerry Kapuscinski, Communicator Laurie Arnott, Communicator Janice Goodwin, Communicator Janis Carvalho, Communicator Suzanne Newby, Communicator Elizabeth Powers, IT Analyst Susan Sartain, FOI Clerk Lisa Wright, Court Services Clerk Bonnie Kierstead, and retired member Cindy Stewart-Haass.

Several members of DRPS attended to help recognize and congratulate these exemplary women.

OWLE is an organization that recognizes female law enforcement members across Ontario. Established in 1997, membership is open to sworn and civilian women and men from law enforcement agencies across the province. Providing a platform to address common interests and concerns, OWLE offers many opportunities for law enforcement members to network and develop professionally.

Congratulations to all nominees and winners, and thank you for your dedication to making our communities safer places to live, work and play.
