Police Week Focuses on Safe Communities

May 16, 2016 10:22 ET

Police Week kicks off today and celebrates the dedication of police officers across Ontario. This year's theme, Discover Policing for Safer Communities, provides the opportunity for communities across the province to discover how police officers are keeping their communities safe.

DRPS is celebrating this annual event with an engaging display, running from May 16-20 at Regional Headquarters, 605 Rossland Road East, Whitby, on the lower level. This display is aimed at increasing crime prevention awareness, and providing an opportunity for our members to interact with the public. Members of the community are encouraged to visit us next week to learn more about what our members do on a daily basis to keep them safe.

The DRPS display will include information about crime prevention, recruiting, Communications/911 and more. The display will also include visits from members of our Tactical Support, K-9, Traffic Services and Auxiliary Units.

Police Week is promoted by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and supported by DRPS annually, allowing us to provide valuable information to the public and strengthen our bonds with the community.
