Victim Services of Durham Region is raising awareness for victims of crime with Victims and Survivors of Crime Week. This annual, week-long campaign is celebrating the "Power of Our Voices" and runs from May 29-June 4, 2016.
Durham Regional Police partners with Victim Services of Durham Region, a community-based, not-for-profit program funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General, to provide emotional support and assistance to victims of crime and tragic circumstance. They do this by allowing the voices of victims and survivors to be heard and making referrals to nearby services within the community, such as counselling services.
Being a victim of crime can negatively affect many aspects of a person's life, including financial, physical and emotional stability. The goal of Victims and Survivors of Crime Week is to raise awareness of the services available through Victim Services, which combat those negative effects. The theme, "Power of Our Voices," celebrates the voices and stories of victims and survivors.
Victim Services will be raising awareness within the community through information booths located in Home Depot locations throughout the Region. Volunteers will be providing information about services provided and how to volunteer with the program.
