Cops and Kids Strike Up Some Fun

Jun 13, 2016 13:46 ET

More than 100 bowlers from DRPS and the community came out to support the eighth annual ProAction Cops & Kids bowling fundraiser in Oshawa. Teams faced off for the chance to go head-to-head with Chief Paul Martin and take home the coveted trophy.

Some teams dressed up in costumes and others created team shirts as they took to their lanes in order to raise money for ProAction Cops & Kids. In total, 20 DRPS teams competed in the event, including teams from the Courts Unit, Major Crime, Communications/911 and all of the divisions. Some of the Divisions brought local youth to help their team. The East Division A Platoon team ultimately came out on top, beating out their tough competition and taking home the first place trophy and dinner for five at Avanti Trattoria.

This annual event provides the opportunity for members of the police to interact with members of the community in a fun and friendly bowling tournament. The money raised helps to positively affect the lives of our community's youth.

"The programs offered through ProAction Cops & Kids have created a unique venue to provide mentorship, support and guidance to vulnerable and at-risk youth within our community," says Inspector Todd Rollauer. "These opportunities would not otherwise be available without events such as this one, where funds raised go directly to supporting programs within the Durham Region."

Neb's Fun World donated the use of the facility, and funds were raised from lane sales, a silent auction and a raffle. The event raised more than $13,000, which goes directly towards funding ProAction Cops & Kids programs.

Thank you to those who provided sponsorship and donated prizes, and to all participants who helped ProAction Cops & Kids put on a stellar event for another year in a row.
