Kids and Cops Hit the Shops

Dec 07, 2016 13:33 ET

Sixty children joined officers from DRPS Wednesday for the 11th Annual Cop Shop event at the Pickering Town Centre (PTC). The children, from Ajax and Pickering, were presented with a $200 gift card from PTC and spent the afternoon completing their holiday wish lists. This marks the biggest Cop Shop event since it began 11 years ago.

Before hitting the stores, the officers and kids enjoyed a pizza lunch, compliments of East Side Mario's at the PTC. Chief Paul Martin, Deputy Chief Uday Jaswal and CAO Stan McLellan were on hand to thank all the officers who volunteered their time to act as "personal shoppers" for the kids. They also wished everyone a fun afternoon of shopping.

In addition to shopping and lunch, the kids enjoyed a visit with Santa before getting all their gifts wrapped up.

The Cop Shop event was started several years ago by the Halifax Shopping Centre and ran at the same time in Halifax, Pickering, Winnipeg and Calgary. Hundreds of children participate in the Cop Shop event across Canada.

Thanks to everyone from DRPS, including organizer Cst. Robin Roychoudhury, the Pickering Town Centre and East Side Mario's who worked hard to make this event a huge success this year.
