Members of the DRPS Youth In Policing (YIP) program held a special day on Saturday as they hosted a basketball clinic and tournament with Special Olympics Ontario.
The event takes place annually and the YIP students are responsible for planning and coordinating the day's activities. Several local Special Olympians attend to shoot hoops with the students and officers.
The Tournament took place at Henry Street High School in Whitby and consisted of friendly basketball games, skills and drills. The goal is to build positive relationships between our Youth In Policing students and youth with special needs.
Several DRPS officers and civilian members attended to show their support for this youth outreach initiative.
There were smiles and laughter throughout the afternoon and everyone had a great time. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make this a great day for athletes and their families.
