Public Opinion Survey for Body-Worn Camera Project

Mar 13, 2017 13:46 ET

The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is inviting the public to fill out an online survey about the possible use of new recording technology by officers.

DRPS is in the preliminary stages of a project to equip certain officers with body-worn cameras (BWC). These small, audio-video recording devices would be attached to officers to provide a record of their interactions with the public. The survey is designed to gather the community's views about the technology so that we consider the feedback as we move forward with this project.

The information gathered from the survey will help officers shape the pilot project and possible future implementation. The results will also be used to develop a report that is scheduled to go to the Police Services Board on June 12, 2017.

The survey is available online at and takes approximately five minutes to complete.
