Learn About Bike Safety This Weekend

May 26, 2017 11:48 ET

Bicycle Fun and Safety Day is taking place Kids' Safety Village this weekend. Parents and caregivers are invited to bring their kids to 1129 Athol St. in Whitby from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to learn bicycle safety in a kid-sized version of a real town.

Be sure to bring your bike and helmet along! This event is hosted by DRPS and will feature bike and gear inspections, helmet fittings and different cycling safety skills.. Other activities include jumping castles, face painting, and draws for bicycles and helmets. Refreshments will be available for a fee.
The Kids' Safety Village features small buildings, detailed roadways, traffic lights and road signs. This realistic setting allows kids to test their road safety skills as a pedestrian and cyclist, in a safe and controlled environment.

Kids are reminded about bicycle safety techniques such as:

*Wearing a properly fitted helmet
*Riding with traffic instead of against it
*No riding on the road under the age of 10
*Proper use of hand signals to let drivers know what you plan to do

For more information on Bicycle Fun and Safety Day or the Kids Safety Village, visit the Kids Korner or contact 905-668-9893.

If you can't make it down to the village, we have a great bicycle safety video here.
