With the temperatures rising across the region, DRPS is reminding everyone to be vigilant with their summer safety precautions.
Remember these important tips during the hot weather:
* Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, regardless of how quick you think you'll be. Temperatures can soar inside vehicles in a matter of minutes.
* Check on the well-being of the elderly. Extreme heat conditions can affect the health of anyone who has breathing difficulties or heart problems.
* Try to avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day. Run errands, workout or garden either early in the morning or late in the day. When performing outdoor activities make sure to take frequent breaks.
* Remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids even if you don't feel thirsty. Water is the best option while alcohol and caffeine should be avoided.
* You should always wear sunscreen and a hat for extra protection when outside. Don't forget to wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from UVA and UVB rays.
* If you don't have air conditioning, visit places that do. Go to a movie, out for dinner or go to the mall.
* Close all blinds facing the sun as this prevents a lot of heat from getting inside your house.
