  Cheque Cashing Fraud in Oshawa

Investigators in Oshawa are seeing an increase in incidents related to a cheque cashing fraud.

In several cases a suspect, either female or male, approaches a citizen outside a bank machine and asks if they will cash a cheque for them. The suspects will use various excuses as to why they cannot cash the cheque themselves, and are often quite convincing. The citzen then cashes the cheque for them and hands over the cash. The cheque eventually returns as declined from the bank.

Residents are asked to be mindful of this fraud and never cash a cheque for a stranger if you are approached. If you have been the victim of a fraud contact police at 905-579-1520.
