The outstanding competition season continues for the Durham Regional Police Pipes and Drums (DRPPD). As a result of their first place finish at the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games, the DRPPD are crowned the prestigious Grade 4 Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario Championship Supreme.
The DRPPD won the Grade 4 Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario Championship Supreme honour with an accumulated 32 points over the last six competitions. With two competitions remaining in the season, this is the second time the DRPPD has received this first place finish, the other coming in 2012. The 8 Wing Trenton Pipes and Drums came in second place with 25 points, followed by the Ryan Russell Memorial Pipe Band with 21.5 points.
With the latest win in Fergus, the band has now placed in the top three at six Highland Games competitions throughout Ontario.
Under the direction of Drum Major Staff Sergeant Colin Shaw, Pipe Major Cst. Mike Lasseter and Drum Sergeant Ted Berlinghoff, the DRPPD is part of the chief's ceremonial unit. With the exception of two, all members are civilian volunteers.

Formed by Staff Sergeant Charlie Green and Sergeant Roy Good in 1996, the Durham Regional Police Pipes and Drums wears the McAlpine tartan commemorating Chief Kevin McAlpine, the fourth chief of the DRPS. In 2012 the band won the Grade 4 Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario Championship Supreme award and currently compete in Grade 4. The pipe band's mission is to represent and help foster the hard work and dedication characteristic of the Service.
The Durham Regional Police Pipes and Drums band will be competing at the North Lanark Highland Games in Almonte on August 26.
