Top Athletes Looking Forward To Children's Games

Oct 16, 2017 13:12 ET

The two top athletes from the 2016 DRP Children's Games are excited to be part of this year's Games and will welcome everyone at the opening ceremonies.

Megan Thomson and Lukas "Lucky" Cuyler earned the top athlete titles last year, and they're encouraging young athletes to come out and take part in a day of fun! Lukas' favourite game is wheelchair rugby, and Megan really loves parachute.

Just two weeks away, the DRP Children's Games provide a day of fun and supportive events for young people aged five to 18 years-old with physical disabilities. The annual event is held at the Pickering Recreation Complex.

The athletes compete in teams, participating in events such as moonball, wheelchair rubgy, parachute, golf and bowling. After the morning events, athletes and their families are served lunch by police and community volunteers, and entertainment is provided by the DRP rock band "The Heat."

In the afternoon the top two teams play wheelchair rugby against the police and auxiliary teams, vying for the Chief's cup. The games wrap up with an award ceremony.

If you know a young person who might be interested in participating please come join us for a day of fun! See attached poster for more information or email us for sign-up information at
