  Shooting Hoops for Joanne's House

Feb 15, 2018 16:22 ET

Raising school spirit and funds for an Ajax youth shelter, DRPS officers took on the Ajax High School Rams in a friendly basketball game on their home turf on February 15.

Energetic students packed the gym to cheer on the teams and danced to the beats spun by a local DJ throughout the afternoon.

Paying $2 to watch the game, Ajax High students supported Joanne's House, an organization committed to intervening on behalf of youth and youth homelessness.

The game promoted positive engagement between community youth and police and provided an added benefit supporting a positive school climate.

This fundraising basketball extravaganza became a reality thanks to a donation from the 2017 PADAN (Police Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night) Committee. DRPS Cst. Jason Dimech, Ajax High School Principal Eleanor McIntosh and former Vice-Principal Basil Broumerotis believed this event would be a great opportunity for students and officers to come together while supporting an important organization.
