It's Elementary! Why do Police Use Different Cars?

Nov 23, 2018 08:19 ET

What do you get when you let kids ask any question they want to a real DRPS officer? It's Elementary!

This month, Isaiah asks "Why do police officers use different cars?" Officer Groves has the answer here.

The "It's Elementary" series was launched in cooperation with the Durham District School Board (DDSB) and the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB), and gives kids the chance to ask questions important to them.

Even if you didn't grow up in the 50s or 60s, you're probably familiar with Art Linkletter's popular television feature, "Kids Say the Darndest Things." As every parent knows, when a child opens their mouth to talk, you never really know what's going to come out. It is this spirit of curiosity, candor and brutal honesty that's behind "It's Elementary."

Building on our strong partnerships with two of the Durham Region school boards, DRPS opened the floor to students from local schools and the response was overwhelming.

The students provided dozen of questions and the top ten questions were selected. Everything from "Do you sleep at the station like firefighters do?" to "What is your most gratifying experience as a police officer?"

Durham Regional Police is committed to strengthening our relationship with youth to help break down some of the stereotypes about police. The video series might inform you about what's on the minds of youth today, but if nothing else, it should give you a little smile.
