New Whitby Police Office on Schedule

Jan 09, 2004 09:34 ET

The construction of the new Whitby Community Police Office on Taunton Road at Anderson Street is proceeding on schedule and will be ready for its grand opening in the Spring.

Dave Simpson, Facilities Manager at the Durham Regional Police Service, reports that the brickwork is nearing completion and the installation of suspended ceilings has begun. Drywall and flooring installation, as well as painting, are underway. The new facility will replace the current office at Rossland Road, just east of Brock Street.

The new location will be home to the Whitby Community Police, Traffic Services Branch (TSB) and other support units currently housed at various locations throughout the region. Phase II of the new site is in the planning stage and may include a warehouse for units such as Property, Fleet and Quartermasters.

The old Whitby Community Police Office will continue to be used by our Court Services while also offering much-needed space for other DRP support units, including the K-9 Unit.
