DRPS Takes Silver in Superstar Race at Skydome

Aug 23, 2004 12:37 ET

In a tremendous feat of skill and endurance, Durham Regional Police came home from the 122nd annual Toronto Police Games at Skydome with a silver medal in the ‘Superstars’ obstacle course.

On Saturday, August 21st, our team of athletes competed in the ‘Superstars’ course with determination, navigating a rope ladder, pushing weights, and climbing a ten-foot wall while the stadium’s crowd cheered them on. The ‘Superstars’ event is considered one of the toughest in the day-long sporting competition that features emergency service personnel from across the GTA.

The Durham Regional Police bike team also had a very strong showing at the Games. Our team of cyclists had the lead until one of our members took an unfortunate tumble on the course. These extraordinary athletes still managed to finish the race in excellent time.

Other competitors at this year’s Games included police teams from Toronto, OPP, York, Peel, as well as the Canadian Military Police and Corrections Canada.

Money raised from this charity event help support the Toronto Police Widows and Orphans Fund for families of local police and emergency workers killed in the line of duty. The Games have been held annually since 1882.
