  Deputy Chief Piukkala Receives Race Relations Award

Deputy Chief of Administration, Rod Piukkala has been awarded a prestigious Citation from the Human Rights and Race Relations Centre for his outstanding work in race relations, diversity and multiculturalism.

The 32-year police veteran has been instrumental in revitalizing the DRPS Community Liaison Committee three years ago and has worked tirelessly to build bridges between community members and the police. Deputy Piukkala has also spearheaded the development of a diversity strategy for the DRPS and is leading efforts to improve training and enhance recruiting initiatives.

He was presented with a gold medal for excellence in race relations, along with several other community leaders from across the GTA, at a ceremony held Monday at Queen's Park.
