  Whitby Community Police Leader Retires

May 30, 2002 12:15 ET

One of Durham Regional Police’s most familiar faces, Whitby Community Police Office Leader Inspector Greg Reid, is retiring after 35 years of service.

Internationally recognized for his efforts in Community Policing, Inspector Reid’s rather large shoes will be filled by Inspector Mike Ewles beginning Monday, June 3rd, 2002.

Throughout his illustrious career, Inspector Reid demonstrated an ability to bring people together, to energize volunteers and to the build bridges between the police and all facets of society. The most recent example of this was the Whitby Involved in Neighbourhood Safety (W.I.N.S.) program, which he started in 1998 with eight volunteers. There are currently over 350 W.I.N.S. volunteers today, assisting police with important community safety programs like Neighbourhood Watch and the Road Watch.
