Three DRP officers were honoured at the DRPA hosted the 2005 Retirement Dinner and Lion’s Club Police Officer of the Year and Terry Ryan Awards Presentation at the General Sikorski’s Hall on Oct. 14.
The Police Officer of the Year was awarded to Constable Craig McInall for his work with the Ajax/Pickering Community Police Office, and in particular, his dedication to one young domestic violence victim. Cst. McInall leads by example, motivates his peers and encourages his fellow officers. His professionalism and respect for both the police service and the community are the reasons he was chosen for this award.
Constable Rebecca Richardson, stationed at the Oshawa CPO, was also honoured at the dinner. Cst. Richardson received the Terry Ryan Memorial Scholarship Rookie of the Year. Her outstanding athletic performance at OPC, her ability to generate enthusiasm in others and her through communications skills made her a standout in the committee’s eyes.
Also honoured at the event was Constable Darryl Rice for his initiative and dedication to help the families of the fallen RCMP officers in Alberta. Constable Rice started the ‘True Blue Hero Band’ campaign and will be presenting each of the families with a cheque for $25, 000. He is continuing the campaign to help support other fallen officers and their families.
The DRP wants to congratulate all three recipients on their awards. Way to go!
