Jun 06, 2002 07:15 ET

Ontario Premier Ernie Eves, Durham Region Chair Roger Anderson, DRPS Chief Kevin McAlpine and Toronto Police Chief Julian Fantino were among the 2,000 people who said a final farewell to Terry Ryan yesterday.

The funeral service took place June 5 at Kingsview United Church in Oshawa and police officers and politicians came from across Ontario to pay their respects. The 55-year-old police veteran was President of the Durham Regional Police Association and Chairman of the Police Association of Ontario. He passed away in the early morning hours of May 31st as the result of a tragic motor vehicle collision in Whitby on May 30th.

During the emotional 70-minute service, DRPS Chaplain Rev. Bill Tadeja and family members remembered Terry’s love for his family and his compassion and commitment to the well being of police officers not only in Durham Region, but also from across Ontario. There were approximately 1,100 officers in attendance from over a dozen police services.

After the service, a lengthy procession comprised of police and emergency service vehicles proceeded to the Erskine Cemetery in Pickering where a private service was held.
