DRP Sergeant Wins ASIS Award for Community Policing

Nov 10, 2005 07:14 ET

In October ASIS International recognized Sergeant Jeff Hewett, of the South Oshawa Community Police Centre, for his work in Community Policing at their 8th Annual Appreciation Luncheon in Toronto.

Bill Anderson, Chairperson of the Law Enforcement Liaison Committee, presented the Community Policing Award to Sgt. Hewett for his ongoing efforts in developing community partnerships and initiatives. These partnerships have strengthened the relationship between the community and the police, as well as addressing the neighbourhood’s law enforcement needs.

“It was an honour to be recognized by ASIS. This award belongs to all of the staff and community partners, who have brought us to the level of community policing we now enjoy,” said Sgt. Hewett.

The South Oshawa Community Policing Partners is comprised of local volunteers and police who organize a number of community events, primarily to raise funds for the food bank and literacy programs. Some events hosted by SOCPP include: Wing It, Hire a Police Officer, Chili Fest Cook-off, and the South Oshawa Community Day.

For more information on how to support the SOCPC, please call (905) 579-1520, ext. 1789.

Congratulations to Sgt. Hewett and his team!
