Staff/Sergeant Scott Burns received a prestigious award for community outreach and promoting diversity at a gala dinner in Scarborough on Dec. 3.
The 20-year veteran received the Professional Excellence Tribute Award for his many accomplishments and his commitment to community service. Throughout S/Sgt. Burns’ career he has been instrumental in the development and implementation of numerous community driven objectives. His most recent project is the DRPS Diversity Strategic Plan. The strategic goals of the plan are to build bridges with the community, establish programs to attract diverse groups to a career in policing and to establish, training, education and awareness programs within the police service and community.
“This is a great honour; to be acknowledged by the community and to be recognized alongside my peers from neighbouring police services,” says S/Sgt. Burns.
The Advanced Business Club, acknowledging professionals from various backgrounds for their contributions to the community, presents the “Professional Excellence Tribute Award”. Officers from York, Peel, Toronto, and the OPP were also honoured at the event.
