Over 3,000 police officers paid their last respects to fellow officer Valerie Gignac at the Dec. 20th funeral service in Quebec.
DRP was well represented at the funeral by 43 members, including Superintendent Bob Chapman, Inspector Charlie Green and nine Auxiliary Officers. Although it was a long, cold and emotional day, DRP did an excellent job representing our organization. Officers from as far as Halifax, New York and Vancouver turned out for Constable Gignac’s funeral. The line of police officers was so long, it stretched further than the eye could see.
DRP would like to thank the attendees for taking the time from their busy schedules, especially at this time of year, to represent our service and to show support for Constable Gignac’s loved ones.
Constable Gignac was the eighth officer killed in the line of duty this year in Canada. She was shot on Dec. 14 while responding to a person in distress call.
Ville Laval has set up a special e-mail address for anyone wishing to send their condolences. The address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
