The Durham Regional Police Services Board and senior staff were successful in bringing two important issues into the provincial spotlight at this week's Annual General meeting of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP).
Resolutions introduced by the DRPS regarding the Hadley Inquiry and Public Disclosure were among the 11 resolutions adopted during the week-long conference, held in Huntsville, Ontario.
Resolution 02-10 calls on the federal and provincial governments to join police leaders in launching an international study on the effects of full public disclosure on the recidivism rates of High Risk Offenders, particularly sex offenders. The resolution also calls for a national workshop on the issue and a review of emerging technologies which may assist in the monitoring of offenders.
Resolution 02-11 calls on the Province of Ontario to fully implement the justice system recommendations of the Hadley Inquiry to combat the issue of domestic violence.
