Mike Ewles was sworn in Monday as the new Deputy Chief of the Durham Regional Police Service.
At a ceremony to begin tthe Police Services Board meeting, Deputy Chief Ewles took his oaths of office and secrecy before a large contingent of friends and family. Justice of the Peace Bob Boychyn presided over the proceedings at Headquarters in Whitby.
Deputy Chief Ewles, age 45, was born in Scarborough and raised in Oshawa. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University in Kingston in 1982. He began his career with the Durham Regional Police Service in May 1982 and served in a uniform patrol capacity in Ajax. Over his career, he has worked in every community in the Region of Durham and has served in Tactical Support, Duty Inspector’s Office and the Criminal Intelligence Branch.
He thanked his family and members of the Service for their support and pledged “service excellence, guided by the principles of honesty, transparency, ethical conduct and hard work.”
