Durham Regional Police will be presenting awards to citizens who have helped with arrests and investigations at a special event today.
At the Regional Council meeting a total of 35 citizens will be recognized for their participation in 19 separate incidents from the past year. Some of the award recipients include a five-year-old Whitby boy who called 9-1-1 when his mother passed out due to a medical episode and a group of eight citizens who intervened in a violent knife attack in Pickering, saving a woman’s life.
Citizens will be given awards for helping police and will pose for pictures with their Mayor, Regional Chair Roger Anderson and Police Chief Vern White. The Master of Ceremonies will be newly appointed DRPS Deputy Chief Mike Ewles.
Congratulations to these citizens for helping make Durham Region a safer place.
