  Operation Impact Underway Across Canada

Oct 06, 2017 09:50 ET

Operation Impact, a national campaign to make Canada's roads the safest in the world, launches this weekend.

From October 6, 2017 to October 9, 2017, Durham Regional Police will be conducting enforcement to remind people that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways. Educating the public in safe driving practices is a priority. The focus will be on impaired driving, seat belt use, and all aspects related to aggressive and distracted driving. These type of driving infractions put drivers, passengers and other road users at risk.

All enforcement agencies across the country have been invited to participate.

This initiative has been strategically chosen by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police to coincide with the long weekend. More people are traveling on the road this weekend than any other weekend in the entire year. More people traveling results in more collisions.

Members of the Traffic Services Unit along with frontline officers will be watching for and enforcing safe driving laws throughout the region this Thanksgiving weekend. This is the second busiest weekend for our Marine Unit and officers will be out on the water enforcing boat safety as well.
