  K-9 Calendar Raises over $37,000

Mar 06, 2018 10:16 ET

Members of the DRPS K-9 Unit presented local charities with a cheque for $37,663 at the Police Services Board meeting on Tuesday.

The money raised from the 2018 calendar sales supported Alzheimer Durham, The Animal Guardian Society (TAGS) and Epilepsy Durham Region. Members from each organization were on hand as D/Cst. Wes King thanked the community for supporting this important initiative.

Now in its fourth year, the K-9 calendar has raised over $126,000 for local charities thanks to ongoing community support. During the 2017 season, members of the K-9 Team volunteered their time to sell the calendars across the region. Pet Smart on Victoria Street in Whitby and Canadian Tire in Bowmanville have been great supporters, welcoming members to come by and sell the calendars almost every weekend.

At Tuesday's presentation, D/Cst. King thanked representatives from both Pet Smart and Canadian Tire with letters of appreciation. Members of Alzheimer Durham also presented D/Cst. King with a stuffed lamb and poem for his hard working K-9 partner Blitz.

Police dogs have, and will continue to, prove themselves to be invaluable members of the Durham Regional Police Service and we are pawsitively thankful for your support!
