Robbery Prevention Initiative At Local Stores

Jul 30, 2018 09:26 ET

Major Crime Robbery investigators, in partnership with DRAVIS (Durham Region Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy) recently took part in a robbery prevention and education initiative in Clarington.

Participating officers attended convenience stores throughout the area to hand out a "What to do in the event of a Robbery" sticker. This sticker was developed by Detective Constable Kerr in an effort to improve the quality of service provided by DRPS should a robbery occur. It outlines the steps to take in the event of a robbery: Call 9-11, Lock the Doors, Stop Serving Customers and Do Not Clean Up.

Officers also shared their insight to improve response times, preserve evidence and ensure each location's security equipment was properly functioning.

Officers will be visiting stores across the region in the coming weeks. For more information on this initiative or to obtain a sticker contact 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5355.
