Youth Learn About Policing During Four Day Camp

Aug 10, 2018 14:13 ET

Our annual Junior Youth In Policing (YIP) Leadership Camp was a great success this week as our summer campers learned about safety and being good citizens.

The Junior YIP Camp consisted of four fun filled days, where over 100 junior students aged 10-13 participated in various interactive activities while receiving positive mentorship from our current Youth In Policing students.

Over the four days Junior YIP students also learned about policing and gained valuable leadership skills. They also heard presentations from our K-9 Unit, Air1 and Public Safety Unit.

As the week wrapped up the campers enjoyed some water games and a carnival day before receiving a signed graduation certificate from Chief Paul Martin.

The Junior YIP camp gives our Youth In Policing students the opportunity to mentor younger students and fosters relationships between police and youth in our community. Thanks to everyone who worked hard to make this event special for the junior campers.
