The Information Release Unit is currently accepting and processing ALL online applications for police record checks.
However, priority is being given to essential service workers by processing their applications first.
All other applications will continue to be processed as soon as possible. Essential service workers are defined as follows:
* Health Care Professionals
* Social Service Workers
* Day Care Workers
* Long Term Care Providers
* Individuals involved in food supply and the maintenance of critical infrastructure
You may apply online for a Police Record Check. Please ensure you check the correct type of check as no refunds will be issued.
Due to Covid-19 the following procedures have been put into place.
* Apply for your police record check online at www.drps.ca/onlinechecks
* Upload a picture of the front and back of the two pieces of I.D. that you applied with. Ensure they are not expired.
* Attach the photo to an email and send to policerecordcheck@drps.ca
* Ensure you put your first and last name in the subject line.
Once all necessary information is received and verified, essential service worker’s police record checks will be processed and emailed back along with a letter outlining this new process. You will also receive your original embossed hardcopy in the mail. All other police record check applications will receive their completed embossed original in the mail.

Broad Record Check (BRC) Applicants - We are accepting online applications for Broad Record Checks; however, until provincial guidelines regarding this level of disclosure are finalized, Municipal Police Services in Ontario are unable to complete these requests. Once guidelines have been established, and processing begins, an email notification will be sent to you. As these matters are out of our control, your patience and understanding are appreciated.
What type of Police Record Check Do I Need?
Please ensure you have selected the correct type of check as no REFUND will be issued.
If you are unsure which application you need, please check with the organization that is requesting this before you apply.
Volunteers (CRC/CRJMC/VSC) - All applicants must upload a volunteer letter from the agency where they intend to volunteer. The letter must be on the agency’s letterhead stationery with the applicant’s name and volunteer position. The agency letter should also state that this is a “volunteer non-paid position.”
Broad Record Check Applicants (BRC ONLY) – All applicants MUST upload a letter from the agency that is requesting the BRC. The letter must be on the agency’s letterhead stationery (not an email) with the applicant’s full name and reason for the BRC. The applicant MUST upload this with their application, or the application will be rejected and no refund issued.

Criminal Records Check (CRC) is
a search of the RCMP databases and is usually required for employment purposes,
bylaw licences or immigration purposes. It is not intended for individuals
seeking employment or a volunteer position working with children or vulnerable
persons.

The Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) is
intended for applicants who are seeking employment or volunteer positions with
agencies who require a criminal record check. The agency has determined that a search of sex offenders with a record suspension is NOT required (e.g. border crossing or visa) therefore this check is NOT intended for applicants who are seeking volunteer and/or employment with vulnerable persons

Note: Only residents of Durham Region who are not directly in a position of
trust/authority with the vulnerable population can apply for a CRJMC.

Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
Includes everything on CRJMC as well as VS check

The
Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
was established to provide screening of individuals who intend on working
or volunteering with the vulnerable. A vulnerable person is defined as a person
who, because of their age, a disability, or other circumstances, whether
temporary or permanent are (a) in a position of dependence on others or (b) are
otherwise at a greater risk than the general population of being harmed by a
person in a position or authority or trust relative to them. This type of
screening is required for the following types of positions: teacher, social
worker, taxi driver, daycare worker, sport coaches, etc.

Coachs, parent volunteers, for sports or school trips, school placement, PSW's, doctors, nurses, hospital employees, dentists, teachers,
non-teaching staff in schools (such as janitors and administrative support),
early childcare educators, daycare employees, employees in long term care
facilities that provide health services to vulnerable adults.
Note: Available only to Durham
Region residents, VSC is restricted to persons/employees who are in a position
of trust/ authority with the vulnerable population in Canada only.

The
Broad Record Check (BRC)
was established to provide screening of individuals that fall under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act , 2017 or under the intercountry Adoption Act, 1998.
A person who holds or is applying for a position managing, supervising, or providing support or assistance to a person designed under subsection 154(1) of the CYFSA in connection to the administration of Part VI of the CYFSA.

Adoptive applicants(licensing, parents), Primary Caregivers, Person responsible for the custody, care and control of a child (residential licensing), Child and Parent Resource institute positions, Youth justice probation office, youth justice.

Based on results of your screening, you may be required to submit fingerprints to confirm identity. There is a
$25 fee for the submission of prints. If prints are not provided the record check will be considered incomplete and no refund will be issued.
